“Death is Tired”

Synopsis

Ten years ago, Persephone “Seffie” Rippon inherited the power of the Grim Reaper from her father Mors, the new Underworld King. Now, she lives smack-bang in the chaos of death: feeling like a mindless killer with no control over her powers – or herself.

Solely responsible for ~170,000 deaths per day, Seffie has to kill whether she likes it or not, because even one single soul not reaped is catastrophic for the sorting system within the Underworld – which is precisely why Seffie cannot choose to save Henry Carter.

But she does.

Earthside, all the souls reaped by Seffie’s unsupervised demon team wander aimlessly in purgatory, unseen by humankind. Down in the Underworld, the sorting system grinds to a halt. Mors visits Seffie to threaten her into doing her job.

She finds herself pulled between her father’s ‘because I said so’, the caveat that she doesn’t have to kill Henry Carter, and a battle for power in the Underworld.

Seffie is faced with staying surrounded by deaths which happen regardless, or finally learning to use her power to step into the role.
