Powerless
Sci-fi Fantasy | Feature
A mildly-alcoholic punk superhuman running from the CIA is captured by a bounty hunter and forced to make a choice to save the world or run again, when an asteroid headed for Earth threatens a total-extinction event.
Synopsis
Liberty Belle Stratton is a superhuman, with powers she doesn’t know the
extent of.
For more than a decade she’s been running from the CIA, evading countless bounty hunters, trying to find her peace. Until Jackson Dawes comes back on the payroll.
An asteroid hurtling towards Earth with a total-extinction-event threat ramps up the pressure to find and implement a solution, and fast. But is anyone listening to the NASA scientists? ‘Course not.
Under the instruction of R&D department head Missy Bennett, Jackson starts hunting for terrorist superhuman ‘Project Orion’, wanted in all 52 states. He finds Liberty quickly, and with some shrewd thinking and a lapse in ethics, captures her to bring her back to base for testing.
During their road trip, Liberty reveals one power she does know about: telepathy. Jackson lowers his guard, and stops fighting her conventionally. Liberty realises she holds more than just superpowers.
The outlook of the asteroid is grim with no workable solution… except for Liberty, and a chain of huge nuclear-headed missiles. But since she doesn’t know what she can actually survive, much less how painful any of it could be, Liberty is left questioning whether she wants to find that out.
